Whether you are preparing for the holiday season, or simply feel that your home is in need of a face-lift, decorating your home can be an exciting and fun project to take on. For some, however, the task can become stressful because of budget constraints. When redecorating on a budget, there are a few things to keep in mind:

-Regardless of what your budget actually is, there is always something that you can do to breath new life into your space. Even rearranging furniture can have a major impact on both the look and the feel of a space.

-Unless you are preparing to put your home on the market immediately, do not put yourself on an unrealistic timeline. Redecorating can be a quick process, or it can take a long time. It really depends on your budget, the DIY projects that you decide to take on, and your overall vision. If you have the time to redecorate your home the way that you really want it – take it.

Color Coordinate with What You Already Have
Regardless of your reason for redecorating maintaining a color-coordinated design scheme matters. If your landlord is not on board with your repainting work with what is already there. Although, this might not be your first choice, remember that pops of color, some creative accent pieces, and a little creativity can go a long way.

Don’t be afraid to reuse some of the furniture and accent pieces that you already own. Sometimes not being able to paint the actual room provides the opportunity to hone in on other skills that you did not know that you have. Great ideas are to repaint some of your furniture, design a couch cover, or stain a dining set.

Invest in Size Appropriate Furniture
One of the biggest mistakes that people tend to make, is buying furniture that does not actually fit in the space. Sometimes this is because it was on sale, other times because it was available, and sometimes simply because they like it. While all of these are understandable reasons – no one is suggesting investing in future that you do not like – investing in pieces that fit your space is necessary. Furniture that is too big and bulky in your space will result in it feeling crowded and much more closed off as opposed to open and inviting.

Create a Space that Represents Who You Are
Your home should be a reflection of who you are. And in many ways, be an extension of your personality. Whether you love photographs, vintage magazine covers, bright colors, rustic accent pieces…etc… Work those into your design.

This last tip is potentially the most important tip and that is to create a space that makes you happy and proud to call your own. A lot of the time having budget restrictions can leave one feeling as though their options are limited, but with a little bit of creativity the options are limitless.
