With the current year quickly drawing to a close, it is normal to think about what changes the new year will bring to you and your family. How your finances will change, what goals you will reach, what goals you will modify, where you will travel, these are all questions that we ask ourselves each year as the new year approaches. But what about your home? How will that change? What can you afford to do? Read on to find out how you can redecorate your home without breaking your 2019 budget.
Recycle/ Up-cycling
Why buy new when there are second-hand stores that are full of treasures that
are in need of a new home. Buying second-hand furniture is more environmentally
friendly and cheaper!
For furniture that no longer fits the style or vibe of your house, there are a
plethora ways you can repurpose it to get the style you desire. Some simple
ways are to distress furniture to make it look vintage. Another easy method is
to repurpose furniture. For example, old, wooden ladders work perfectly as a
hanging unit for blankets/ scarves.
Use paint to make a big splash
Paint can be used in many ways and can drastically change the design of a room
depending on how it is used. One of the easiest and impactful ways of using
paint is to create an accent wall. This will cut down on the cost of buying
paint and primer to cover all four walls. Choose the smallest wall in the room
and use that wall as your focal point.
Thinking of wallpapering? Consider making your own wallpaper using a stencil
and paint. This method is much cheaper and you get more creative freedom than
you do with using wallpaper. It also makes changing it up down the line a whole
lot easier.
Don’t Underestimate the Impact of
Finishings
Changing out your finishings like light fixtures or
taps can make a dramatic impact on the style and overall feel of the space.
Whether you decide to go high end, vintage, rustic or unique those changes will
change the feel of whatever space you are making changes too without costing
you a crazy amount.
Changing out the finishings is also a great
option if you don’t have a ton of time to dedicate to redecorating. Afterall
swapping out a light fixture takes a lot less time than repainting a room or
laying down new flooring.
Re-purpose
Little did you know; your house is full of hidden treasures that just need a
little bit of TLC. Before you replace
your wing back chairs or couch, loveseat or dining room chairs, give them a
good look over and see if you can freshen them up. While it might seem like a
large job, all you really have to do in order to bring a piece of furniture
like an armchair or a couch back to life consider upholstering it to give it a
fresher look.
